(AFA ID 2012)

Asia's Biggest Anime and Japanese Pop Culture Event comes to Indonesia!

Jakarta, 12 July 2012 – With the popularity of Japanese popular culture locally on the rise, fans can now look forward to an extravaganza like no other. The first Anime Festival Asia Indonesia 2012 (AFA ID 2012), scheduled on 1 & 2 September 2012 in Jakarta International Expo, will be the biggest anime and Japanese popular culture event in the nation.

Anime and Japanese popular culture fans will enjoy an electrifying line-up of anisong (anime songs) stars from Asia's music powerhouse, Japan. They can come face-to-face with Japan's top talent and latest offerings in animation and the Japanese popular culture scene, complete with premium original merchandise, movie screenings, cosplay-related activities, and maid and butler café experiences. The experience will be akin to being in Japan's famous Akihabara district.

With a strong interest in all things Japanese, Indonesia has seen an expansion of Japanese eateries, language courses, martial arts, cosplay competitions since the 1980s. In the early 2000s, Japanese music, from pop music to anisongs, won the hearts of Indonesians. CDs sold out quickly due to the high quality song production and the association of anisongs with familiar anime or game characters.

AFA ID 2012 will focus on popular content and the latest trends based on the interest and preferences of the Indonesian audience. It is a satellite event of Anime Festival Asia, Southeast Asia's biggest and most anticipated showcase of the latest Japanese popular culture, anime content and stars. Indonesia will be the second country to host such an event, after a highly successful festival in Malaysia in June. AFA ID 2012 will lead up to the Anime Festival Asia 2012 in Singapore this November.

Visitors to AFA ID 2012 will be able to catch the largest lineup of Japanese anisong J-Pop acts performing over 6 hours in 2 days during the 'I love anisong' concerts. They will perform songs from some of today's biggest anime titles in Indonesia and Japan.

A special cosplay championship will be held during the festival. The winner will represent Indonesia to compete with the region's best cosplayers from Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand and Philippines, at the Regional Cosplay Championship. The Regional Cosplay Championship will be held in Singapore during Anime Festival Asia in November 2012.

Apart from the concerts, AFA ID 2012 will have something for everyone, depending on their interests. Avid shoppers can look forward to one of the largest collection original anime merchandise from Akiba Town by some of Japan's top brands. More details on participating brands will be announced at a later date.

A main stage, able to host up to 3,000 viewers, will showcase rare guests from the anime industry, including celebrity voice actors, cosplay celebrities and anime producers.

Visitors to the festival can also experience the iconic Moe Moe Kyun Maid Café and Atelier Royale Butler Café, exclusively available only at AFA ID 2012, for a memorable dining experience.

Jointly organised by Skylar Comics, Dentsu Indonesia and SOZO, AFA ID 2012 will be held at PRJ Hall A, Jakarta International Expo on 1 and 2 September 2012. The festival is sponsored by Bushiroad, with Trilogy Live as the Official Staging Partner, and Stromotion as the Official Promotions Partner. The Official Regional Media is Animax.
